This gets easier, right? Oh my goodness. I just got done with my second workout now that I'm back in the swing of things. Last night was Plyo Cardio Circuit, and I'm honestly still sweating from doing Cardio Power & Resistance. I don't know if I have words for how exhausted my body is at this moment. For most of the workout, I was on the brink of just saying, "Forget this!" It was uncomfortable, hard and....uncomfortable. Now that I'm finished after making it all the way through (yay me!), I started thinking about how painfully uncomfortable exercise was when I first started.
The very first aerobics class I went to was Cardio Kickboxing at one of the local gyms here in Anchorage. I stood in the middle near the door figuring I could make a quick getaway if I didn't like it. Then this teeny little woman named Nina walked in, turned up the music and we started. We kicked and punched, and I thought I was going to just collapse. I told myself, "Good enough," and planned to leave. That is until I looked up at the clock. We had only been going for 10 minutes. I didn't want to be the girl who left after 10 minutes so I stuck around, and used water breaks as my excuse to catch my breath. I made it through the whole class purely because I didn't want people to think, "Ooo...she couldn't handle it." Yes, my serious case of self-consciousness finally paid off! After that, I just kept going back. At first, I was pushed by not wanting to be the girl who never came back, but then, after awhile, it really did get easier. I stopped watching the clock so much and started focusing on how great I was feeling, and how awesome punching was for my stress levels.
Thinking about that reminds me that these crazy Insanity workouts really will get easier or at least I won't run out of steam as quickly. I'll be in better shape tomorrow than I am today purely because I did this workout today. Every day builds on the day before - string enough days together and voila!
So don't get discouraged because you think you're out of shape or not keeping up with the other people or missing a workout because life gets in the way sometimes. Definitely don't stop because it's "too hard." Just push on through, and do your best. You just might surprise yourself.
