Decide. Commit. Succeed.

These three little words mean so much, and the key word is commit. I'm sure you've decided many times over that you want to change your life...and I'm sure you've decided what it is that you want to change in life just as many times. I know I have. Just being interested in making a change isn't enough. You have to commit yourself before you can get anywhere near succeeding.

So what exactly does it mean to just be interested? Well, you work your plan when it's convenient. When something else sounds more fun, then to heck with the plan! You know what I'm talking about. ;) You depend on the results to push you, and once the results start to slow, then you start to "cheat" just a bit more here and there until you have crossed state lines right in to Off the Plan Land. (Yes, I just came up with that all by myself! Self high-five!)

What then does it mean to be committed? Well, not to steal Nike's catch phrase, but when you're committed to your plan, you just do it! No questions, no stupid excuses...you just stick to it no matter what. So you have a little cheat one day - it's not the end of the world when you are committed to your goals because you just keep going. When you don't have enough time to work out, you make time. When you don't have the support to help you, you find the support (I'm always available). When the results slow and you hit that plateau, you change things up and blast right on through!

So what's it gonna be? Are you ready to commit? I know I am! Today's exercise is to write down some different ways that I am going to stick with my program, no matter what. Here's how I am committing myself.
I am going to change into my workout clothes as soon as I get home from work before I even have a chance to find something else to do.

I am going to guzzle the water even if it means duct taping my water bottle to my hand so that I stop leaving the house without it.

I am going to stop thinking that it's me against the world, and start reaching out to friends when I need help.

I am going to make sure I get plenty of sleep at night so that I have more energy through out the day and less chance of the after lunch slump.

One last thing....HAPPY FRIDAY!

So lately my left knee has been feeling a little tweaky, especially after a long walk. Any ideas? I know I'm old, but come on! After I sit for a while and get back up, it's kind of stiff. Time to join the knee brace wagon?

Knees are tricky. A little tweaky could be tired, your shoes, or it could be a real problem...and I'm not a doctor. In massage school we used hydrotherapy to help with stiffness: alternate a warm towel with ice (never ice directly on the skin or for longer than five minutes). You could try that...or a knee brace for a bit. Seriously though, if it's a bad tweaky or borderline bad tweaky, head to the doctor! :)

Oh it's not super bad tweaky, don't worry! And it better not be the shoes because I did the treadmill test and bought $140 shoes. ;) I'll try the towel with ice.

It could just be the increase in activity too - probably not your spiffy shoes. Give the hot/cold a try and see how it goes (you can use your heating pad for that part too).
