I used to have the entire bag of Halloween candy left over the following the year. Yes, it's true. I would freeze my buns off to go Trick or Treating (in Alaska, your costume always hid under your snowsuit!), and then I would barely touch the candy after a couple of days. That silly bag would sit in my closet behind clothes, toys, books or whatever, and it would still be full when I pulled it out for a new adventure of Trick or Treating. I would throw out that old, hardened chocolate and candy. My question, "What the heck happened?" If I had that bag of Halloween candy now, then you better believe it wouldn't still be full next month let alone next year!
Somewhere along the way, my relationship with food changed. I always loved my sweets - cookies, chocolate, yum! - but I was more likely to OD on beef jerky than chocolate. Seriously, what happened? And why do we develop a relationship with food anyway? It's so silly! It's food! It can't smile at you, or give you a hug, or ask, "Does it really matter what he thinks about you?" It's just food, and we should eat to live not live to eat.
I guess I just knew the secret back then: MODERATION! One piece of candy isn't going to ruin your health. Two pieces aren't going to either...just don't go overboard.
If you have this same problem, can you remember a time when food really wasn't that big of a deal?
Here's to living the fit life!
