Lose It! Seriously....

That number on the scale can be so powerful. If you're down on weight, then you're walking on air, and nothing can bring you down! That smile just can't get any brighter. Suddenly it's easier to avoid those unhealthy foods staring you down because you have success in your back pocket. You're practically running to that next workout!

Then there's the other side of the scale - the evil side. If that number is higher or shows a goose egg, then that's when the self-deprecating behavior starts. It's so much easier to give up - why not eat that 600 calorie poppy seed muffin? Why bother exercising? Suddenly, you're not trying anymore. That smile just can't be found. It doesn't matter that your pants had been feeling looser all week long because of the changes you're making in your fit lifestyle because now they feel tighter than ever before.

It's time to take the power away from the scale. I've been on of those people who weighs in everyday - which is incredibly silly because your weight fluctuates day to day. And what kind of weight loss was I looking for in just one day? Then I graduated to weighing in just twice a week. I called it my "mid-week weigh in" to see how I was doing, and what I needed to do the rest of the week. Again, this is a little bit on the crazy side. Now I'm considering the unthinkable: not weighing in until the end of phase two of ChaLEAN Extreme. Instead I'll focus on the fit of my clothes, and the changes I see in the mirror.

There are so many reasons why the number on the scale isn't moving: water retention, muscle building, the body having an initial freak out about this sudden addition of exercise, etc. Honestly, there are more important numbers to watch than your weight like body fat percentage and inches lost. It's seriously time to let go of the importance of the scale. Now I'm not saying throw it out completely and never weigh in again. That's just crazy, but I dare you to take a hiatus from those weekly weigh ins.

Keep Pushing Play!
